Etymology

Plaistow Street is la Playstowe in parochia de Lyngefeld 1418Harl , the Playstow in Lyngfelde 1428Egerton , Plaster Street 1765 R, and was the home of William ate Pleystowe (1332 SR). 'Place of play or sport.' Cf. Pleystowe Fm supra 266. It is an open space in the middle of the village of Lingfield.
