Apsley is Haspale 1282 FF (p), Asphale 1288Ass (p), Apesselytowne 1583 SAC vi. The earlier forms suggest OE (æt þǣm ) æsp hēale , 'aspen tree healh or corner of land.' For confusion of hale and ley cf. Bewsley (PN D 442).
