Etymology

This name has clearly undergone a process of folk-etymology; there is no hill here which would justify the use of hlaw as the second element, and further, that word is only once found (and that doubtfully) in Surrey place-names. The first element must be a woman's name Sidelufu . This particular compound is not on record, but both elements are common in OE personal names. Hence, 'Sidelufu 's mill,' v. myln .
