Etymology

Petridgewood Fm is pedan hrycg 947 BCS 820, Pederig 1243 Misc, Peterugge 1354Ct , Peterigge 1447Rental , Petrichwod 1550LRMB , Peterich Inholmes 1622Survey , Pettridg wood 1634 SAC viii. The personal name Pede is on record in an original charter of the 8th century (BCS 154). It is probable that we have here its weak form Peda . Hence 'Peda 's ridge,' v. hrycg . For Inholmes , v. supra 272.
