Etymology

Horleyland Fm (6″) is Hollyland c. 1600, Holey land 1627Rental , Holyland 1680 Seller, and was the home of Robert atte Holyland (c. 1350Chertsey ). 'Holy land,' but the reason for the name is not known. In recent times the name has been re-spelt so as to conform with that of the parish.
