Sent Fm

Early-attested site in the Parish of Abinger

Historical Forms

  • the Sountt 1502–3 ECP
  • Sunts c.1680 ParReg

Etymology

Sent Fm (6″) (locally Sends) is probably identical with the Sountt 1502–3 ECP, Sunts c. 1680 ParReg. The farm lies low between two streams and we clearly have OE  *sunt , 'marshy ground,' discussed in PN Sx Part I, p. xlvi, PN D Part II, p. x.Cf. Sunt Wood supra 57, Sunt Fm infra 335, Suntħill in Hook (1397Deed ) and Sonteland in Cranleigh (1521Ct ).
