Etymology

Ruckmans (6″) is Rukenham 13th, 1332 BM, Rogenham 1279Ass , Rokenham t. Ed 1 BM, 1347Ass , 1381Rental (p), 1399, 1419 BM, Rookenham 1553Deeds Enrolled , Roocknam c. 1680 ParReg, Ruckmans lands 1700Rental . This is a difficult name.It may go back to an OE  Hrōcan ham (m ), 'Hrōca 's ham(m),' but the early forms in u are against this. Cf. Hrōcan leah (BCS 1047).
