Etymology

'Farm of Abba 's people,' v. ing , worþ . The DB form is clearly corrupt. For the phonology, cf. Bobbingworth (Ess), which is Bobbinger in some 17th and 18th century spellings (ex inf. Dr P. Reaney) and Horningsheath (earlier Horningsworth ) al. Horringer (PN Sf 66).
