Etymology

Wastidge Spinney (6″). Cf. Wastidge Hill waste , Wastage 1608–9Survey , Wastedge 1617Prince Charles , and possibly (wood of ) La Wayse 1281 Cl. wastage is recorded in the 19th century meaning 'waste ground, desolate place,' and if the 1281 form is disregarded this name looks like a similar use of the word.
