Slatepits Copse takes name from Slattpiche 1551–2Survey , Slatpitt , Slattpitts 1608–9Survey , Slatpittes 1617Prince Charles . The thinnest in bed of the Forest Marbles (flatstones) were used as slates (Arkell, p. 88).
