Etymology

The spellings Litte -, Lutte - suggest an OE  pers.n. Lytta , a mutated variant of the Lutta which lies behind OE  Lutting (Redin 174); it would be from the root of lȳt and lȳtel 'small', the latter being also apparently used as a pers.n. in Lidlington (Bd 79) and other p.ns.The earlier forms are against a derivation from OE  lȳt itself. v. hrycg .
