Etymology

Battlescombe, Battlescomb (e )1609AOMB 394, 1830 M, Battlefrome field (sic for Battlescomefield )1702GR 892. Probably 'Bæd(d)el's valley', v. cumb . This OE pers.n., which is not on record but is a normal derivative of OE  Bada , has a similar change in other p.ns. like Battle Bridge (242), Battledown (ii, 97infra ) and Battlesden (Bd 115).
