Etymology

Dagnish Wood, Tagonhegge 1448MinAcct , Dagenhege , woodCagnishe (sic for Tagnishe )1599Comm , Dagnes 1609AOMB 394.Probably in view of 1448 and 1599 spellings a compound of OE  tacca or tagga 'teg, young sheep', and ecg 'edge, escarpment' or hecg 'hedge'. The change to Dag - is unusual (cf. Phonol. § 44d ).
