Etymology

Red Bridge (6″) is Hocklee 's Bridge 1650 Tasker, Red Bridge 1777 C. Redbridge Ho (6″) is Hockeles 1360 Misc, Hokkeleys 1361 BPR, Bedleres garden alias hockley , Hockleys in le Water 1609LRMB and was still Hockles in 1900 (Tasker). It is to be associated with the family of Hugh de hockele (gh ) (1332SR ). Redbridge Lane (6″) is continued into Wanstead and is Wanford Lane (cf. Wansteddforde meade ) 1609LRMB . Roding Lane (6″) is Waterlane and Wanstead Lane (6″) is Wanstedland ib. Cf. Eld Lane infra 370.
