Etymology

Loxford Hall. Cf. Loxford (ebury )1319 Pat, 1368Ct , Loxfordstrete , Loxfordbridge , Loxfordgate 1456 ER xxxii. Probably 'Locc 's ford.' Alternatively this may be 'the ford through the Loxa ,' a river-name which survives in Lox and Lox Yeo (So), and enters into Loxwood and Loxton (So), a British name probably meaning 'winding stream,' which would not be inapt here. v. RN 267.bury is used in its manorial sense.
