Etymology

Clayhall. Cf. la Claie 1203 FF, La Claya 1239For , Berkyngcley 1424 AD vi, Clayhall 1449 Pat. v. clæg . Some of these references may be to Claybury supra . The two places are quite close together and in some documents the names are alternative. The parish of Ilford was formerly part of Barking.
