Etymology

'Farm at a marsh', v. mōr 1 , tūn , cf. Saughall Massie 321infra , Bidston, Wirral 308, 167supra . Mortonemassy contains the manorial suffix -Massy , the Massey family of Saughall Massie were also lords of Moreton in the thirteenth century.
