Etymology

'Farm by a mound', v. hlāw , tūn , cf. Lowe Fm infra . The original form survives in Lawton Hollows 1831 Bry, v. Hollows infra , and was current in local usage down to the nineteenth century. The affix is bugge 'a hob-goblin' and distinguishes this place from Church Lawton 320 infra , cf. Buglaw 1191.
