  • Cony-Garth 1782 Hargrove

Etymology

, Cony -Garth 1782 Hargrove 88 , who regards the hill as an old encampment naturally protected by a precipice on three sides and by terraces on the fourth ( so taking it to be ' king's enclosure ' , v. konungr , garðr ) , but it is probably the common coning-erth ' rabbit-warren ' ; there are apparently earthworks here as well as the pits and quarries mentioned above ( cf. VCH ii, 6 ) .
