Etymology

Kingway Barn. Cf. Kingweye 931 (14th) BCS 672, Kingwei 956 (14th) ib. 922, Kyngesweye in villa de Redburne (i.e. Rodbourne infra ) 1289Ass . This must have been the old name for the road between Malmesbury and Chippenham. Cf. infra 71 and GrundyH 73–4.
