Hilbrighthope (lost), Hildebrighope 1279 QW, Hilbdebrighthope c. 1293 SadD, Ildbrictorp (sic for Ildbrictop )1297 LS, Hillbrigthorpe 1310 SadD, Hildebrithorpe 1456 SadD, Hilbright & Hope 1535 VE.'Hildebeorht's valley', from the OE  pers.n. Hildebeorht and hop, but some forms have substituted þorp 'outlying farmstead'.
