Etymology

Diggle, Diggel l. 12Nost 22d, Dighil (l )e. 13 ib 66, 1468 SadD, Dighull c. 1272 SadD, Dikele 1249 Pat (p), Deghall 1638 BM, Diggle 1822 Langd. Probably 'ditch hill', v. dīc , hyll , with the not uncommon voicing of intervocalic -k - (cf. Phonol. § 37); cf. Digley 263supra .
