Etymology

'Farmstead on the ridge', v. hrycg (replaced by ON  hryggr), tūn , cf. Rigton iv, 177infra . It is on the long ridge topped by Alms Cliff infra . On the form Rygh - cf. Phonol. § 38; DB Ris - is an AN spelling of this.
