Stainburn Hill, 1839TA , Stainburn 1226 FF, Steaneburn 1570 KnaresW, the name of the hill-top above Barrowby; v. steinn 'stone'; burn cannot here refer to a stream (as in Stainburn 48infra ) but must be ON  brún2 'edge or brow of a hill'.
