Etymology

Throstle Hill, Frostildehau 1175 Font, Frostildehowe 1314 Fount, Frostildhowe 1307 YI, Thrustle Haw 1771 M. 'Frosthild's hill or mound', v. haugr ; it is on the North Riding boundary. The first el. is an unrecorded ON  fem. pers.n. Frosthildr , which is a dithematic name from a theme Frost -, represented by the ON , OSwed  pers.n. Frosti and found in l.OE  Frostulf (cf. NP 44), with fhe common ON  theme -hildr (as in Gunnhildr , Ragnhildr , etc.). The current form Throstle - is an inverted and analogical form due to the confusion of th - and f - in pronunciation (cf. Phonol. § 49) and the influence of throstle .
