Etymology

'Gallows enclosure', v. galga , haga . The gallows here gave its name also to Gallow Bank 1840TA , Gal (g )heberg 1228 Rip iv, 1231 FF, Galeghberegh , Galecheberch 1259, c. 1265 Font, le Gallabargh 1481 RipAct (v. beorg 'hill') and Galgherane 1203–46 Font (v. rān 'boundary strip').
