Oaklands, Oat Lands 1847TA , may represent the older p.n., Hutlagelandis c. 1260 Calv, Hutlailand 13 Hem 274, Hutlelandes c. 1289 Calv, Outelandcliff 1334 Hem ii, 108, 1351 Calv, which means 'the outlaw's land' from l.OE  ūtlaga (from ON  útlagi ), v. land , clif ; the cliff doubtless refers to the steep bank between Oaklands and the R. Aire.
