Neatenden (6″) was formerly Netherton (1220 FF) and may be associated with the family of Alex de Nytherton (1296 SR) and Sampson Bynethetone (1327 SR) (J.E.R.). If the name is of local origin its application is not clear, for the place is on high ground, with no higher farm in the neighbourhood.
