Etymology

Cf. Crowhurst supra 502. As this is in more open country croh may have denoted saffron and the whole name mean 'enclosure where saffron grows.' Cf. Croghfeld (1413Ct ) in Warminghurst. The occasional development to crough and croff is interesting. Cf. Crafton (PN Bk 87).
