Etymology

Brailsham Fm (6″) is Breilesham 1230 P (p), Brailesham c. 1250 SRS 31, 88, 1437 FF (p). We clearly have the same pers. name here as in Brailsford (PN Db 69), DB Brailesford , and possibly in Brailes (PN Wa 32), DB Brailes , if that is a case of a p.n. formed from a pers. name in the genitive, without any second element. The name would be OE  Brægel , but its affinities are not clear.
