Etymology

Possessionhouse Fm (6″), locally Session House , is called Possession House in 1731 (SAC 41, 116). According to SAC 40, 85, it was previously called Withers , Waves , and Clouthers . Some time after 1707 it was sold away from the Muntham estate and on recovery of 'possession' it received its present name, sometimes contracted locally to Session House .
