Etymology

This may be interpreted as 'ham(m) of Finn ,' but as we have no English examples of that name later than the Heroic Age, we should perhaps take it as fīneshamm , 'enclosure of (or by) the heap' or possibly 'hill.' It stands on a hill, cf. Findon supra 197.
