Etymology

Edgington Fm (6″) is Eggingethone c. 1197, Eggingheton 1200–5, Egelington 1261, Egelinton c. 1240, Eglinton 1270 Pens. This is probably 'farm of Ecgel ' (v. ingtun ), this being a diminutive of OE  Ecga . Cf. Edgcott (So), Eggeliscote 1327 SR (p), and PN NRY 301.
