Etymology

Other forms are without interest, except to note that they have often been mis-transcribed with an n for the u . 'Godgiefu's wood,' v. wudu . Godgiefu is a common woman's name in late OE , most familiar to us in the Latinised form Godiva . Near Goodwood was a Godiuemere in 1209 (FF).
