Etymology

Probably 'crocker-hill,' i.e. where the crocker or maker of pots lived. This carries the word back some hundred years earlier than the earliest example in the NED. Cf. Crockern Pill (So), Crokere (s )pill , Crokere (s )pull 1242, 1268 Ass, Crockerhill (Ha), associated with one Crokkere (1327SR ) and Crokerstoke in Hants (1255FF ).
