Etymology

Casteye Wood (6″) and Casty, a house in the village (not on the map), must have been the home of Richard de Cattestye (1296 SR in Cuckfield) and Walter de Cattestye (1340 NI), and is recorded as Casty in 1564 (Rowe). The name means 'cat- path.' v. catt , stig .
