Stringhams Copse

Early-attested site in the Parish of Send with Ripley

Etymology

Stringhams Copse (6″) is Strangham , Stranghamsputtock 1425, t. Ed 4, Strengham , Stringhams 1530Onslow . We may note also Stringhams in Ash, Byfleet and Shalford infra 381, 384, 393, for which we have one early form Strenghams (1548). This suggests some common noun, a compound of ME  streng , 'string,' and hamm , 'enclosure.' Examination of the topography and shape of these fields throws no light on the significance of the name.
