Etymology

This name may be identical in origin with Ripley (Db, Y).The Db place is Rippanleah (KCD 1031), suggesting the possibility of a personal name Rippa (Skeat). Alternatively, the name may contain OE  rippel , 'strip, strip of woodland, coppice,' discussed in PN Wo 158s. n. Ripple.
