Etymology

Stockhurst Fm is Stockette 1587–91 ECP, Stocketts 1614 SAC ix, Stock House 1765 R, and was the home of John atte Stoket (1311 FF), John atte Stokette (1321 Cl) and Simon de Stokette (1332 SR). 'Collection of stocks or stumps,' v. infra 358–9. For the modern form v. Introd. xxv.
