Etymology

Rabbitsheath Cottages (6″) is lands called Rabies 1599 SrWills, Rabies heath c. 1670, Rabyes heath , Rabbits heath 1704 LBl, and is to be associated with the family of John and Thomas Raby (1527 LBl). Lambert (576) considers the site to be identical with Heastchert , Chertlond c. 1255, Estchert 1522, le Chert 1530 LBl. v. Churt supra 178.
