Etymology
Brewer Street is Brewhouse Street t. Eliz SAC xxv, 1608 SAC vi. Mr Lambert in his Blechingley suggests that this early 16th century building must have had an earlier name, and says that it is no doubt identical with Kentwyns al. Kentweys al. le Tanhouse 1493, Tannehouse 1519 LBl. There is a Kentwins in the adjacent parish of Nutfield supra 303. For Brewer (s ) from Brewhouse , v. Introd. xxv.
