Scratta Wood is wodd called Skratta 1539 DukRec, Scratta wode t. Hy 8MinAcct . Without earlier forms no certainty is possible, but it is highly probable that we have here a compound of ON  skratti , 'goblin' and hagi . Cf. the field-name Scrathawe (PN Nth 264) and Scarthing Moor infra 197.
