Etymology

Roolton (lost) is Rolvetune 1086 DB, Rolton 1275FF , Rolton juxta Wirkesop 1319Ass , Rolleton 1302 ib., Rolleton juxta Wyrsop 1305 ib., Rolston juxta Wirksopp 1319 ib., Roolton 1415FF . It is difficult to take the name as other than 'Hrolf farm' from OScand  Hrólfr .We should have expected a genitival compound Rolvestune , but cf. Wollaton infra 153–4.
