Hy 2 (1316) ib., (le ) Herdewyk '1300 For, 1304 Pat, 1310 Ipm, Hertwic 1316 Ch, Herdwyk 1330Ass , Hardwykcloses t. Hy 6 IpmR, Hardewykwode t. Hy 8MinAcct .v. heordewic , 'herd-farm.' The early forms may have been influenced by the corresponding OScand  form hiǫrð .
