Tuck Mill , Filley Mill Cl 1842TA , probably 'wood or woodland clearing frequented by woodpeckers', from OE  fīna and lēah .This was a tithing in Uggescombe hundred supra , and is villa de Fynleie in 1288Ass . The addition -holme (from the early 16th cent.) is holm (OE  holegn) 'holly', cf. Hutch3 450 who states that the place is 'said to have been so-called from the holm-trees, which formerly grew near the spot where the adjoining counties meet' (Thorncombe par. infra was formerly in D, this par. in Do).
