From OE  hrycg 'ridge', first el. probably an OE hill-term *ceacce 'lump' proposed for a group of names including Chackmore Bk, Checkendon O, Checkley He, St (v. VEPN 2 154), though a possible alternative is an OE  pers.n. *Ceacca . Cot (t )cote , -cott is perhaps 'Cotta's cottage', from the OE  pers.n. Cotta and cot .
