Etymology

Wick (lost). There were two places called Wyke , one near Bockhampton and one near Eastbury. The Bockhampton place is La Wyke c. e.13th (c. 1425) Frid, La Wyke by Bokhampton 1311 Ipm. The Eastbury place is La Wyke by Estburi 1311 Ipm, La Wyke by Estbury 1324 Ipm, Wyke near Estbury 1325 Cl, Wike 1330 Ipm, Wyke 1331 Fine, Le Wyke 1401–2 FA. 'Dairy-farm', v. wīc .
