Etymology

Eastbury, (æt ) Eastbury c. 1090 (c. 1300) ASCharters, Estberi 1165 Pet passim with variant spellings Estburia , Estbir ', Estbyri , Estbiri , Estbere , Estbery , Estbur ', Estbury ; Estheria Regis 1167 P, Eastbury 1720PubLib , 1761 Rocque, v. ēast , burh . The meaning is probably 'manor to the east of Bockhampton'; the latter was a separate estate in 1086. Part of Eastbury was taken into the king's hands in 1164 (VCH iv, 259), hence Regis in 1167.
