Alderley Edge, Alderley Edge 1860 White, now a distinct c.p. formed from the eastern half of Chorley township with parts of the hamlet of Hough in Bollin Fee 221supra , named after the hill Alderley Edge 95supra , and, until 1779 'a dreary common containing nothing but a goodly number of Scotch firs' (cf. White 883, Orm2 iii567).
