Etymology

'Row (of houses) at a valley', v. denu , rǣw . This hamlet lies between the valleys of the rivers Bollin and Dean 15, 20supra . The r.n. Dean may be taken from this place. The first record is the surname of Heyne del Dene of Bolynne (Bollin Fee), Court 217. But the valley in question may be that at Bollington 187supra , in which case Dean Row is named after the river.
